Many Sydney ‘90s kids would remember begging their parents to take them to Australia’s Wonderland thanks to word of mouth and advertisements like this one.

This upbeat cinema advertisement for the now-defunct amusement park relies on dynamic pacing, fast cutting and scenes in constant motion to showcase the rides and activities on offer. They included the rickety Bush Beast rollercoaster (there was a smaller Beastie for kids) and characters like Scooby-Doo from Hanna-Barbera land. The repeated lyrics ‘Fun, fun, fun’ and ‘Fun for everyone’ cheekily imitate the ‘Just for fun’ slogan of Wonderland’s theme park rival, Luna Park.

Wonderland opened on 5 December 1985 and served its last thrill-seeker in 2004. This advertisement was digitised from a 35mm release print and provided by film distributor Val Morgan and Co.
