Set over the course of a single night in Memphis, Mystery Train interweaves three loosely connected stories of strangers drawn to the city by accident, longing or obsession.
Japanese rock’n’roll pilgrims Mitsuko and Jun, widowed traveller Luisa and expatriate Johnny, nicknamed Elvis, drift through the city as the night unravels. Their paths converge at a faded downtown hotel run by a sardonic night clerk (Screamin’ Jay Hawkins) and his anxious bellboy (Cinqué Lee).
Directed by Jim Jarmusch, Mystery Train moves with deliberate slowness and deadpan humour.
