Growing up in Maclean, on Yaegl Country in Northern New South Wales, we lived above the Nungera Gallery in the centre of town, where mum [Joyce Clague née Mercy] would bring in friends to showcase their cultural excellence.
For me, one of the moments I remember, possibly because of the family archives, is when she invited Koiki Mabo and he and a few Torres Strait Islander dancers performed in the park across from the gallery.
