Matlock Police aired on the 0-10 Network (now known as Network Ten) between 1971 and 1976, focused on a police station in the Victorian town of Matlock and its surrounds.

This clip features Jack Karlson, the Brisbane man best known for his viral 'Democracy Manifest' speech during his 1991 arrest outside a Chinese restaurant. After serving a sentence in Victoria in the mid-'70s, Karlson's parole officer, Jacqueline Lesage, suggested employment with Melbourne-based production company Crawford Productions.

Much like his later starring role in the public consciousness, this clip sees Karlson having a run-in with the police. His grand, comic delivery can be heard as his character regales a group of friends with his ideas – before the festivities are cut short by an officer who tries to put a stop to the public boozing.

In addition to Matlock Police, Karlson took on a host of bit roles in Australian police procedurals, including Division 4, Cop Shop and Homicide.
