The viral internet meme 'Democracy Manifest' is remembered in part for the iconic voice of Brisbane man Jack Karlson. His bombastic delivery during his arrest cemented him in Australian pop culture – and it may not come as a surprise that Karlson has experience with television and stage acting.

But in this clip from Australian police procedural Homicide, Karlson's theatrical tones are absent. His character, who is being questioned by police after his friend has been shot, speaks in a more steady, generic patter – an ironic contrast to Karlson's usual theatrical flair, which is on display in Karlson's bit part in another episode of Homicide from the same year.

Homicide often drew from real-life cases and is the longest-running Australian weekly primetime drama in history, airing from October 1964 to January 1977.
