An example of tie-in merchandise, this black baseball cap promotes the pioneering radio program Gaywaves on Sydney community radio station 2SER 107.3. The gay and lesbian radio program first aired in 1979, broadcasting at a time when homosexuality remained criminalised in New South Wales. The program ran until 2005, breaking new ground in queer representation and community broadcasting, before returning to air in 2025 after a 17-year hiatus. Recognised for its cultural significance, Gaywaves was inducted into the NFSA’s Sounds of Australia register in 2021.
