Can’t get enough of playing Fruit Ninja on your phone? This is the variant cover A artwork (by Scott Brown) for the first issue of the Fruit Ninja comic book. The mobile game, produced by Australia’s Half-Brick Studios, launched in 2010 and became a global smash thanks to its colourful graphics and simple yet addictive gameplay.

The comic cover strives to replicate the game’s appeal, with Fruit Ninjas slicing through tropical fruit thanks to their mastery of Juice Jitsu. It’s an inevitable franchise-expanding spin-off of one of the most successful Australian video games ever produced, the app having reached the milestone of one billion downloads in 2015, and speaks to its ongoing cultural impact.
