Before the success of Australian cult classic Kath & Kim, Jane Turner and Magda Szubanski's television collaborations included D-Generation (1985-87) followed by Fast Forward, which was a small-screen hit between 1989 and 1992. Directed by Ted Emery and writer-performers Gina Riley and Glenn Robbins, Fast Forward appeared at the height of the sketch comedy boom on Australian television in the late '80s, tapping into a thriving live comedy-cabaret scene in Melbourne.

In this clip, Magda Szubanski discusses her trials and tribulations with work colleague Carmel (played by Jane Turner). While many Fast Forward sketches present themselves as TV shows, there are also more general character-based sketches like this one. This supremely disinterested duo were recurring characters and demonstrate Turner and Szubanski's flair for creating slightly grotesque comic characters.
