The centuries-old set-up, 'Why did the chicken cross the road?', has led to a punchline with over 350 million downloads. Blockbuster mobile game Crossy Road tasks the player with guiding a chicken across a preposterously busy, infinitely generating road – until it's claimed by death.

Developed by Australian indie studio Hipster Whale, the endless runner has come a long way since debuting on iOS in 2014, spawning multiple offshoots and its co-op sequel Crossy Road Castle. The NFSA collection includes a vinyl copy of Crossy Road Castle's official soundtrack, composed by Max Coburn and Calum Bowen.

The 'Tower Rush splatter' coloured vinyl features a striking splatter design on the record's surface, making it a unique collector's item. Meanwhile, the cover image reflects the game's 8-bit style and showcases the iconic characters sequestered in a castle turret, reflecting the game's new platformer format. These design elements and the vinyl tie-in speak to an underlying nostalgia in the gaming community and the broader culture for retro media, which has prompted a resurgence in classic arcade formats, 8-bit visuals, video game soundtracks and analogue audio.
