It’s unclear if this pre-recorded radio promo session with AC/DC members Bon Scott, Malcolm Young and Angus Young ever aired in 1976. In this clip, the band members, with their laidback attitude, broad accents and playful banter, record multiple promo takes coached by 2SM disc jockey Ron E Sparks, who half-jokingly tells them, ‘You guys are awful disc jockeys, I want to tell ya’.

It’s funny to hear how unfiltered and unapologetically ‘themselves’ the band are compared to the slick, media-trained young music stars of today. Fumbling lines, laughing and goofing around, the band don’t take their temporary radio gig too seriously, as they promote their upcoming 2SM and Shelleys Rock Stars and Stripes concert (‘Down at, um, where are we going to?’, Scott asks). Held to celebrate the American Bicentennial, the concert was at Bradfield Park in Sydney’s Milson’s Point and featured AC/DC alongside the Ted Mulry Gang, Billy Thorpe, John Paul Young and Dark Tan.
