1999 | DCP | USA | D: Anthony Minghella

Set in beautiful Southern Italy in the 1950s, con artist Tom Ripley (Matt Damon) is drawn into the glamorous life of wealthy American playboy, Dickie Greenleaf (Jude Law).

Admiration soon curdles into obsession as Ripley becomes dangerously attached to Greenleaf and his lifestyle. Identities eventually start to blur and lead to deadly consequences. The film unfolds as a psychological thriller about class, longing and moral emptiness.

The elegance and restraint of Minghella’s film heightens the unease that sits beneath its external beauty. With Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett and Philip Seymour Hoffman in key supporting roles.

‘A chilling study of how envy corrodes the soul.’ - Janet MaslinThe New York Times
