Panellists: 

Dr Jess Herrington is a Senior Researcher and Futures Specialist at the ANU School of Cybernetics. She uses Cybernetics to explore AI, immersive technologies, and human perception/interaction. Jess holds a PhD in neuroscience, specializing in human visual perception, along with degrees in Philosophy, Psychology, and Visual Art. Her professional journey before ANU involved collaborating with leading global brands to develop innovative digital experiences. Her projects span from creating AR/VR environments for filmmakers to developing educational applications, notably an augmented reality app designed to enhance neuroanatomy education at the ANU Medical School, and digital experiences to improve patient experience at the Sydney Children’s Hospitals. 

Sui Jackson is a Canberra-based contemporary artist and researcher whose work sits somewhere between affective computing, multi-agent systems, cyber-physical art, and his own particular and relentless enthusiasm. He is interested in what he calls ‘yestalgia’ - which is excitement about today, based on hopes from the past. On his quest to bend the physical world to his will he was an electrical linesman, a card-carrying member of the mid-90s dot-com bubble, a network guy who shepherded the Australian EFTPOS network through Y2K and off X.25 onto ISDN, a ceramicist and a glassblower. He completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Glass) and an Advanced Masters in Contemporary Arts Practice at the ANU.

Dr Anna-Sophie Jürgens is a Senior Lecturer in Science Communication at the Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science, ANU. She is also the Head of POPSICULE , ANU’s Science in Popular Culture and Entertainment Hub. Dr Jürgens’ research explores cultural meanings of science, the history of (violent) clowns and mad scientists, science and humour, and the interface between science and (public) art.
