Made exclusively for the Commodore 64, Sgt. Slaughter's Mat Wars was designed around the persona of moustachioed WWE star Sgt. Slaughter (AKA Robert Rudolph Remus). Sgt. Slaughter himself isn't a playable character in the wrestling video game. He appears as a referee and guide for the player, who switches between strategising as a manager and barn-to-arena brawls as a wrestler.

This concept artwork is one of many pieces illustrated by graphic artist Russel Comte, who worked on a variety of well-known Commodore 64 games in the 1980s and 1990s. His depiction of a dazed wrestler in the ring captures the cheeky spirit of the game and Comte's comic-book style. Colourful and humorous, his art informed the look and feel of an elaborate wrestling world. Other concept pieces show fighting rings, streetscapes, a hospital setting and character selections for Delores Delux, Big John, Abdul el Makash, Fast Ed and Lucky Louie.

Developed by Melbourne-based Beam Software and published by Mindscape, Sgt. Slaughter's Mat Wars showcases distinctive Australian artistry through its bold computer graphics and animation.
