This short excerpt from the hugely popular preschooler TV series Romper Room will bring back memories for generations of Australians. It starts with a classic catchphrase ('Ready please, Mr Music') and comes from the 'I am a Romper Room Do Bee' segment in a 1982 episode. Teacher Miss Helena sings, ‘Try to do what’s right, and not do anything wrong; I’m a Romper Room Do Bee, I Do Bee all day long. Buzz buzz!’ while the kids on set uncertainly mouth along with the words. The Mr Do-Bee puppet lurches precariously next to Miss Helena and buzzes at appropriate moments. The song is a great example of how Romper Room incorporated morals and manners into its routines, even if it can come across as a bit strict four or more decades later.
