Art school rockers Mental As Anything were an electric jolt to the nation. Known for their wit and warmth, they blended visual art with earworms and rowdy live gigs, holding onto their infectious humour through it all. In the mid-1980s, the boys broadened their appeal to an overseas audience with their fifth studio album, Fundamental.

The music video for their smash hit single ‘Live It Up’ is all maximalist ‘80s visuals, resplendent with neon, hairspray and a famously catchy hook. From their beginnings in the ‘burbs to unexpected international stardom, the clip shows Mental As Anything never lost their sense of play.

Originally released in Australia in May 1985, the single gained massive traction overseas after being featured in a party scene in Crocodile Dundee (1986), which catapulted all things Aussie into the global spotlight.
