Don't Stop, Girlypop! game trailer

  • FormTrailer
  • GenresAction, Adventure
  • Year2024

This official trailer for the Y2K-influenced Dont Stop, Girlypop! (formerly Incolatus) shows off the developers' unique creative vision for an arena shooter game. Developed by WA studio Funny Fintan Softworks, footage from the game subverts the masc aesthetics that usually define first-person shooters.

A bubblegum pink-and-chrome colour scheme dominates, while glittering intertitles command the player to 'spread the love!'. The droll and encouraging narration sheds light on a distinct revolutionary narrative in which players are tasked with overthrowing the grip of the mining company Tigris Nix. Meanwhile, the tight gameplay loops characteristic of the genre are reinforced by the trailer's fast-paced editing. Dizzying thrills and combat are still promised, even if the blasters shoot out a spray of cartoon hearts.

Don't Stop, Girlypop! has been acclaimed for its bold, striking graphics, winning the Technical Achievement Award at the 2024 Melbourne Queer Games Festival and screening at SXSW Sydney 2024.
