The title consists of two separate items - 'Departure of the Australian Expeditionary Force' and 'Departure of Reinforcements for the Front'. In the former item, troops move up gangplanks of a ship and horses move up another gangplank, after which there are images of a tug towing the A-20 transport out of an Australian port, followed by coverage of this and other ships continuing to move down harbour or out at sea. In the latter item, troops (seen from dock) wave from ship prior to departure. Numerous civilians hold streamers connected with occupants of ship, while other civilians wave handkerchiefs as ship leaves the wharf. The ship is possibly the Hororata, which was part of the first convoy of ANZAC troops.
