In February 2020, NFSA Oral History Senior Curatorial Officer Sean O'Brien interviewed Dave Mason, songwriter and lead singer with the innovative and influential pop group The Reels.

In 2001, Dave's song 'Quasimodo's Dream' was placed at number 10 in APRA's 'Top 30 Australian Songs of All Time' list. In this audio clip, Dave talks about writing 'Quasimodo's Dream' in Kings Cross in the early 1980s, crafting surreal lyrics that were wide open for interpretation.
