Darwin's Brave New World: Evolutions

Darwin's Brave New World: Evolutions

Darwin turns his back on scientific celebrity and becomes a virtual recluse while he secretly gathers evidence for his theory of evolution.

His faith is shattered by the death of his daughter, but he has a steadfast supporter in botanist Joseph Hooker. Darwin is also helped by the return from Australasia of one of his greatest allies, Thomas Huxley. Hooker and Huxley encourage Darwin to publish his ideas, but then a letter arrives from Indonesia with news of an evolutionary theory almost identical to Darwin’s. Darwin is shattered: has 20 years of work come to nothing?

A Screen Australia National Documentary Program. A ScreenWorld and Ferns Productions production. Produced in association with the NSW Film and Television Office and the ABC with the assistance of the Canadian Television Fund and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Made in association with History Television (UK) and ZDF in co-operation with ARTE. An Australia–Canada Co-production. © NFSA, ScreenWorld, Ferns Productions, Screen NSW.
