This 1930s travelogue was the first in a series created by well-known Australian cinematographer Arthur Higgins for Cameracraft Productions. Using his unique film colour system 'Solarchrome Color', the reel focuses on the Sydney beach culture of the era to position Australia as a site of leisure and unrivalled beauty.

Digitised from a 35mm nitrate print, the dreamy footage shows masses of people relaxing at Bondi Beach, along with the surf lifeguards at work. Narrator Jack Cover sets the scene, offering insight into the 1930s as an age of speed and rapid innovation; his voice-over also reveals the travelogue’s intentions: to present Australia's coastal cities as a 'playground' where the stresses of factory and office work can be washed away in the surf.
