Horses and snow is not a familiar image for Australian cinema audiences let alone international audiences who most likely think of Australia as either red desert or golden beaches. But the alpine locations where the film was shot were a feature of the movie as were the horses themselves.

A 'brumby' is an Australian wild, feral horse that is more famously found in alpine regions but also in the Northern Territory and Queensland. They are the descendants of escaped or lost horses. The origin of the name, 'Brumby'. is obscure but was used by Banjo Paterson in another of his poems, Brumby's Run, published in 1894.
