Rare footage of the Angels from late 1976 can be found in Alice Through the Lift Doors, an obscure 20-minute promotional film made for the department store Myer. The band perform their signature song 'Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again’ among a crowd of Christmas shoppers at Roselands Shopping Centre, in south-west suburban Sydney.

The cameo shows the band in transition, before they finetuned their stage personas. At the time of filming, some nine months after the release of 'Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again’ – which was their first A-side single – charismatic frontman Bernard ‘Doc’ Neeson had just stepped away from playing bass. These duties were handled temporarily by group leader John Brewster, seen wearing an ‘Alice’ badge on his guitar strap.

Long-time drummer Buzz Throckman (AKA Graham ‘Buzz’ Bidstrup) features in possibly his earliest filmed appearance with the Angels, after replacing original member Charlie King in August 1976 (King’s percussion work is heard on the released recording). The footage also offers a glimpse of lead guitarist Rick Brewster’s original stage presence, years before he shifted to his iconic ‘statue’ mode of immobilised performance.

Directed by Ron Saunders, Alice Through the Lift Doors was produced in 1977 for the Australian Retailers Association, used as an induction tool for new Myer employees.
