These ‘dinner chimes’ were used by Radio 5DN (now Cruise 1323) in Adelaide for 35 years from the early 1930s. Station staff played them on air to mark a program change, making them an important but unsung piece of historic radio technology. Different stations usually played their own sequence or sound. This set was superseded in 1966 when 5DN adopted electronic chimes, the first to be used in South Australia.
