Stereoscopic technologies have been around since the early 18th century, with each generation adapting them for contemporary use. The View-Master stereoscope was patented in 1939 and became popular for its ‘virtual tourism’ views. Demand continued well into the 1990s, making it an extraordinarily adaptable technology. This set dates from 1989 and is pictured with reels for the TV series Knight Rider (1982–86) and Blossom (1991–95), and the film Dick Tracy (Warren Beatty, 1990).
