The Queen in Australia
Since her first visit to Australia in 1954 to her last in 2011, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II (21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022), captivated crowds across our nation. Elizabeth II was the first reigning monarch to set foot on our shores, and that initial visit was beautifully captured in the first-ever feature-length colour documentary made in Australia, The Queen in Australia (1954).
The Queen returned to Australia another 15 times since that tour. At the NFSA, we have a wealth of material documenting the monarch's official tours. This collection includes some of the many highlights.
