Christine Anu makes NFSA her Island Home on 2 June!

ONE-NIGHT-ONLY IN CONVERSATION AND CONCERT IN ARC CINEMA

Australia’s most iconic female Indigenous entertainer, Christine Anu will grace the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) with an intimate evening of music, memories and conversation on Friday 02 June, as part of National Reconciliation Week commemorations.

Christine Anu is one of Australia’s most successful performers, with a career spanning more than two decades. The event offers Canberrans the opportunity to hear the celebrated artist perform a selection of acoustic tracks: songs from the Torres Strait Islands, and hits including My Island Home and Sunshine on a Rainy Day.

Joined on stage by NFSA Sound Curator Thorsten Kaeding, Christine will also open up on her multifaceted career, life and work as an advocate for diversity and inclusion in the community, and the importance of Indigenous languages in cultural identity.

She said: ‘I am honoured to have been asked by the NFSA to come and present an In Conversation with the amazing Thorsten Kaeding. I look forward to sharing my stories and songs.’

In 2016, Christine’s 1995 award-winning single My Island Home was added to the NFSA’s Sounds of Australia registry. She played to billions around the world at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, and has won multiple awards, including ARIA, Deadly, Green Room, and Sydney Theatre Awards, just to name a few. She has also made appearances in feature films including Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge! and The Matrix Reloaded and is currently the host of the Friday and Saturday national evening show on ABC local radio.

Acting NFSA CEO Meg Labrum said: ‘We are delighted to welcome one of Australia's most versatile performers to the NFSA. Christine Anu is remarkable as an artist, a businesswoman and social advocate. We're big fans of her work, and she's already a member of our Sounds of Australia family, so she is no doubt the perfect guest to end our National Reconciliation Week commemoration program with an empowering bang.’
