Internships and traineeships

Learn from industry professionals through student internships or First Nations traineeships in curation, preservation and more

The National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) offers:

  • internships for Australian and international tertiary students
  • paid traineeships for First Nations people.

Our internships

As an intern, our staff will mentor you as you carry out a project at our Canberra, Sydney or Melbourne offices.

It’s a chance to get hands-on learning with our curatorial or preservation teams. Our staff specialise in sound, broadcast, film, documents and artefacts.

A typical NFSA internship runs for one or 2 days a week for one semester.

The duration of an internship is negotiable but isn’t longer than 6 full-time working weeks.

NFSA internships are unpaid and interns are responsible for their own travel expenses.

Eligibility

To be eligible for an internship at the NFSA, you must be:

  • engaged in tertiary study
  • sponsored and insured as part of your educational institute’s formal internship program.

We value, support and embrace diversity and inclusion. We encourage students from all backgrounds to apply.

Whether we offer an internship is merit-based and depends on our resource availability.
